Don't ignore these Signs of Depression in Men

Our society has become one-sided in its views. To believe today's imagery would be to believe that the only issues of significance are those of women. It's a fact!

Being unfairly and unjustly has to lead to negligence of balanced coverage about topics and issues. Men remain unaware of severe health issues that affect either him or someone he knows. Like the fact that more than four times as many men as women worldwide suffer from Depression and we tend to ignore the signs of depression.

Signs of Depression in Men: What to look out?

Depression in men often goes unnoticed and untreated, because men are less likely to ask for help and admit that they're feeling low or depressed.

If you want to look for signs of depression in men, you need to look at their behaviours. Alarm bells should strike when they seem to be changing too much. Here are a few signs of depression to see-

  • seem to be oversleeping lately

  • they appear more tensed and stressed

  • show more anger lately

  • preferred to be left alone

  • feeling low, sad

  • hopelessness or helplessness

  • Fatigue

  • loss of interest in activities

  • withdrawing from others

  • experiencing problems with concentration

  • having feelings of guilt

  • a noticeable change in eating habits

  • aches and pains you haven't experienced before.

Getting Depression help:

Men can hide their feelings so well that it comes as a complete surprise that such a thing has happened. Their fight with depression is usually a silent battle they fight alone.

When you have depression, you don't have to try to cover it up.

Many men try to cover up their depressive feelings by turning to alcohol, drugs, work, sex, and many other activities to hide their true feelings and their problems. By focusing on something new, they are hoping to get over their depression. However, often they end up even more sad and miserable than before.

Men do not normally seek treatment when they have depression while women do not usually admit that there is a problem. However, if you get plenty of support from your family members and friends, you should be able to find a way out to deal with things.

If you recognise the above signs of depression in men in yourself you should immediately seek some professional advice. So, if you are someone who has been feeling low for an extended period you must get some help. Here's where to start... get some professional advice from your consultant, don't deal with depression alone, talk to someone and ask for help.
